NBC Adventure Series - 58 Filmed Episodes

Cast:

Tarzan:   Ron Ely
Jai:   Manuel Padilla, Jr.

Edgar Rice Burrough's famous "Tarzan" character came to
television in the person of Ron Ely, the 14th actor to play the
role since Tarzan of the Apes had first been made as a silent
movie almost 50 years before. In the TV series Tarzan, who was
actually the Earl of Greystoke, returned to his native jungle forest
after years of formal schooling. Living among the wild creatures,
with whom he could communicate, and possessed of incredibly
acute senses, Tarzan waged war on renegades, poachers, and
other interlopers in the jungle. Familiar with the civilized world,
Tarzan preferred the honesty and opennes of life in the jungle,
with his closest friend being the chimp Cheetah, but he was
fond of all the creatures of the wilds. Tarzan was also close to
a small orphan boy named Jai. Actor Ron Ely did many of his
own stunts in his portrayal of Tarzan. The famous Tarzan yell
was a recording by another Tarzan, Johnny Weissmuller.
