Jessica Fletcher was a middle-aged widow living in
quaint Cabot Cove on the coast of Maine. A former
substitute teacher and PTA volunteer, she had attained
celebrity late in life through the success of her
mystery novels. Not only could Jessica write good
stories, she was a talented amateur detective as well.
Active and adventuresome, she took advantage of the
money and opportunities that her writing had provided
and traveled widely. Along the way she frequently got
involved in colvuluted real-life murder mysteries,
which she diligently pursued by piecing together
obscure clues to determine the culprit. Although
Jessica was the only regular in the series, there
were a few others who turned up periodically,
they are listed in the cast list above.
